"Our mission: to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more. Trust is at the core of this. And we're taking a principled approach with strong commitments to make sure that our customers can trust the digital technology they use. When it comes to privacy, we will ensure your data is private and under your control. When it comes to compliance, we will manage your data in accordance with the law of the land. We will be transparent about the collection and the uses of data and ensure that all your data is secure. These are the four strong commitments that we will make in everything that we do." – Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft

As Raghu Ramakrishnan, Microsoft's CTO for Data, pointed out in a recent interview: GDPR support is the most important technology of 2018. Why is Microsoft so committed to GDPR? And what does it mean for your organization? The enforcement of the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) represents a watershed moment for the tech industry. Not only does GDPR reflect a shift towards increasing regulation of IT, it ushers in a new era in which privacy protection is both at the forefront and a mandate by law. For Microsoft, the fundamental tenets of human rights undergirding GDPR are a natural extension of our motto: "Built on Trust." To this end, Microsoft has undertaken significant effort to scale out and scale up privacy protective solutions supporting GDPR across our worldwide infrastructure, notably offering GDPR capabilities to EU residents and people of all nations.

In this session, we will discuss Microsoft's journey to GDPR readiness, detailing the challenge of scaling GDPR capabilities worldwide across hundreds of services teams and all types of clouds, the technical innovation devised based on strong data and information governance practices, and the lessons learned and best practices identified as a result of Microsoft's collective experience.
